The Cabinet operates under the leadership of the Chief of Staff, supporting the initiatives of the Executive and Legislative Branches. Each semester or academic year, every position develops a unique project.

Chief of Staff
The Job of the SGA
Chief of Staff:
- The SGA Chief of Staff's primary job is to complete the initiatives of the SGA President and manage the SGA Cabinet.
- The Chief of Staff serves as the senior advisor to the SGA President and reports to the President on the advice of the SGA Cabinet.
- The Chief of Staff assists the SGA President in selecting students to serve in staff positions.
- The Chief of Staff is always open to hearing new & innovative ways to make Georgia College a better campus overall. He can be contacted at sga.chiefofstaff@gcsu.edu
- The Chief of Staff's Office is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center.
Maxwell Gohn:
During his time at GCSU, Maxwell Gohn is a finance major with a
rhetoric minor from Savannah, GA. He joined SGA in the
2023-24 school year as a senator. Elected to a new role, he
served as the chair of the retention committee the following year.
Keeping the cabinet's workflow efficient is a key duty as Chief of Staff.
Supporting student needs through structured initiatives remains his
ultimate focus, a priority from his previous committee work.
Continuing this effort, he works to enhance communication between
student government and the administration.
Keeping his career goal in view, he plans to become a
professor of financial planning after graduation.
Director of Athletic Affairs
The Director of Athletic Affairs shall do as follows:
- Supervise and manage the performances of Thunder.
- Manage travel arrangements for Thunder to and from appearances.
- Actively seek opportunities for Thunder that are high impact and appropriate.
- Act as an escort to the costumed Thunder mascot as needed.
- Reports to the Chief of Staff
Stephen Resutek:
Stephen Resutek is the newly elected SGA Student Director of Athletic Affairs. He is from Watkinsville, Georgia and graduated from Oconee County High School in the Spring of 2025. In high school he played Lacrosse and managed the football team. In his free time he loves to watch sports, play CFB 26 on his Xbox, and listen to worship music.
Director of Environmental Affairs
Georgia College is going Green! The Director of Environmental Affairs, with the assistance of the Assistant Director, is responsible for communicating sustainability within the Georgia College community while giving students an opportunity to join and support the many environmental groups and organizations offered on campus. The Director will:
- Promote recycling for students on and off campus
- Search for new and innovative ways for Georgia College to improve its Green initiative
- Work with campus organizations to help foster new ideas to continue to further Georgia College's Green efforts
- Provide waste reduction opportunities and quality recycling services to students and campus clients
- Find new ways for Georgia College to reduce its environmental impact

Mary Piper:
My name is Mary Piper, and I am a second year Political Science major and Philosophy minor Pre-Law student at GCSU. Among being the Director of Environmental Affairs for SGA Cabinet, I hold several positions of leadership such as the Secretary of the Eta Sigma Alpha Honors College and Academic Development Committee Chairman for Phil Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. Additionally, I am very involved in SGA by being the Chairman of the Sustainability & Infrastructure Committee. Currently, I am taking courses to complete the Leadership Certificate Program. In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, going thrifting, and participating in on campus events. I am very passionate about recycling, sustainability, and environmental issues. I hope to one day practice Environment Law and be involved in politics to further Sustainability efforts.
Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs acts as a liaison between SGA and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Maintaining contact between the two, the director will:
- Develop and perpetuate strong relationships between SGA and Greek organizations on campus
- Assist in the promotion of Greek Life throughout the Georgia College community
- Coordinate joint community service projects for Greek Life and SGA
- Inform SGA of issues surrounding Greek Life
- Promote Greek Unity between organizations
- Enforce guidelines set in place by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life
Breanna Sterner:
My name is Breanna Sterner and I have the pleasure of serving as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs for the Cabinet this year! I am a freshman Biology major on the Pre-Med track. I love being involved around campus in various clubs and organizations. I am a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and I have loved my time here on campus so far. Back home I enjoy going to the movie theater, going to 6 Flags, hanging out with my friends, thrifting, and going to concerts.
Director of Governmental Affairs & Policy Awareness
The goal of the Director of Governmental Affairs is to provide the most up-to-date and relevant political material to the Georgia College community. The Director of Governmental Affairs will also work to provide Georgia College students with the opportunity to participate in the Legislative processes that most directly affect them.
The Director will:
- Serve as a liaison between our elected officials, civic leaders, and the SGA’s administration
- Keep campus leaders up to date on the rapidly changing political climate at the local, state, and national levels
- Partner with local, state, and national elected as well as appointed officials to benefit Georgia College
- Facilitate opportunities for students to get involved with their elected officials
- Strive to keep Georgia College a politically active and aware campus
- Attend monthly council and commission meetings
- Coordinates GC Day at the Capitol
- Follow legislation of interest in the Georgia General Assembly and the United States Congress

Mia Simmons:
Mia Simmons is a junior at Georgia College & State University, where she is working toward a bachelor's degree in political science and certifications in both Leadership and Election Administration. Simmons strives to be an active member of her community and serves as president of a student organization, is a member of the university's leadership program, and is involved in student government. Following her graduation, Simmons hopes to pursue a career in public service, focusing on voter education and civic engagement.
Director for International Affairs
This position will work to bridge the gap between International students and the rest of the Georgia College community while encouraging them not to just assimilate into our culture but use their diversity as an asset to strengthen our school.
Jane Walmsley: My name is Jane Walmsley, and I am a third-year English major with a Political Science minor at Georgia College. I am honored to be serving as the Director of International Affairs. Within SGA, I also serve as the Chairwoman of the Belonging and Inclusion Committee. I have served as a Senator in the Student Government since my freshman year, and I am committed to ensuring that every student at GCSU feels they have a voice. Outside of SGA, I work as a Georgia College Tour Guide, write poetry (including a published work in the university's published literary and creative arts journal, Peacocks Feet), and celebrate all things Disney.
Director of Service Advancement
The Director of Service Advancement serves as a liaison between SGA and the GIVE Center, works closely with service organizations to find ways for SGA to serve them best, and to assist in SGA fundraising efforts for the Student Emergency Fund.
Ariana Dugger: I’ve always had a heart for service and bringing people together to make a difference. As a graduate student, I get to do what I love by connecting students with local organizations and finding creative ways to support our community. Nothing makes me happier than seeing people come together, lend a hand, and create real change.
Director of Ethics
The Director of Ethics is tasked with planning ideas for the USG Ethical Awareness week (November 3rd-9th 2025). Are formed through collaboration with each of the standing committee chairs. These ideas will be referred to the administration though the SGA President. The Director of Ethics also plans and promotes ethics workshops throughout the year.
Sophia Beal: My name is Sophia Beal, it is my pleasure to serve as this year's Director of Ethics. I am a first year biology major on a pre-vet track. In my free time I enjoy sitting outside with friends, thrifting, and going to just about any type of concert.
Director of Graduate Affairs
The Director of Graduate Affairs serves as the liaison between the SGA and the graduate school.
Evie DePetro:
Evie DePetro is the Director of Graduate Affairs, SGA. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. She received her Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Science at Furman University, where she also double majored in Communications Studies. She is currently in the second year of her Master's studies in Biology, and working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Biological & Environmental Sciences department."
